However, during an open-day consultation last week, he was instructed that the BSc in Home Sciences course is only for women within the college. “It becomes unexpected to know that the university does not provide the course to men. Home Sciences has historically been taken into consideration as a lady-oriented course. But things have changed, and now, increasingly, boys are showing hobbies inside the route due to better possibilities. The officials have asked me to be a substitute cross for a BSc in Food Technology, which is likewise to be had at the simplest co-ed university in DU,” he stated.

Kumar isn’t alone. Many male aspirants journeying to the college with admission-related queries were amazed to recognize that several publications are not available for them or have only a few university options in those publications. Courses like Psychology (Honours), Philosophy (Honours), Sociology (Honours), and Geography (Honours) are more often than not available in women-handiest schools. Presently, around 14 schools in DU offer BA (Honours) in Psychology, of which eleven are women faculties. BA (Honours) in Sociology is available in 10 schools, of which eight are girls’ colleges. A BA (Hons) in Philosophy is being provided in 16 colleges, of which 10 are Women’s College.

Only three ladies’ colleges–Bhagini Nivedita College, Institute of Home Economics, and Lady Irwin College—offer a BSc route in Home Sciences inside the university. Anupa Siddhu, fundamental of Lady Irwin College, stated that although the path syllabus has no “gender bias,” co-ed schools do not “come ahead” to start the route for male college students. “The direction is innovative and covers all subjects that could properly help students get career alternatives in food, hospitality, nutrients, and fabric technology. Many colleges in Delhi are presenting Home Sciences to all college students. However, we have not heard from any co-ed technological know-how university showing interest in beginning the course,” she stated.

Manoj Sinha, principal of Aryabhatta College, stated that their mignon might have a demand” among mental sciences. “If the co-ed faculties start the course for a few involved college students, it becomes hard for us to manage the resources in constrained finances. The simplest strategy to offer the identical possibility in these publications in DU is that a provision shall be made in which the lady’s colleges supplying those guides can accommodate a few male college students,” he stated. However, in the case of BA (Hons) guides in Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, and Geography, DU officials noted that the college is attempting to begin them in more co-ed faculties.

“Earlier, extra women would look at Humanities in colleges, and subsequently, the demand for those arts guides became better among women aspirants. However, in the final five years, fashion has shifted. We have quite a few male students who had humanities in elegance 12 and need to pursue those courses at DU. Many co-ed schools in DU are in procedure to begin these guides,” said a senior university legitimate, who needed not to be named. Geetash Nirban, associate professor at Kamala Nehru College, noted that these guides are similarly popular amongst male aspirants because of their ample professional possibilities. “Many co-ed faculties have also commenced providing Psychology, Sociology, and Philosophy as a paper in BA (program) guides due to the demand. The departments concerned with disciplines are also running to extend them to other colleges.
